WTF is up with Bill Rini. I love his writing most of the time. He proves himself, time and time again, to be a very intelligent writer, and yet his previous post is so inaccurate it's startling. He's writing about the state of online poker, and one of his main points is the following:
"First off, let’s start with the overall market impact. The cold hard truth is that there are less total players playing today than there were even back in Jan. The drop off has been even more dramatic since Black Friday (Oct 13, 2006)."
I commented to him that this was not true, and there was a wealth of information on the subject for anyone who wanted to look. You can check PokerSiteScout numbers, or Sniper's thread on the 2+2 forums. I even posted a chart of some recent numbers right on Bill's blog to show that the numbers are up. (As you can see, the aggregate total number of players on ALL sites is +4857.)
After all of that, Bill responds to me:
"dragonystic,
what you said is untrue. they may be playing more on a particular site but if you look at the total number of players playing on all sites . . . it’s down.
Bill"
This is sorta reaching one of those absurd levels of ridiculousness. He asked me to post numbers showing him his error, I did so, and he argues against the numbers staring directly at him.
Now if this was a smaller blog, I probably wouldn't have even bothered mentioning the mistake. But A LOT of people read Bill Rini. 10x more than the # of readers I get. I feel like he has a responsibility to either report the truth or in the face of new evidence, fix his mistakes. How many people are going to read that and believe whatever he says? Many I'm sure.
So that is why I'm posting this here. There's obviously no point in arguing with him any more in his comment section. I just hope a few readers stumble on this and realize that Bill is not correct on every point he makes.
